With sadness for that which won’t be fulfilled, gratitude for what was, and solace of the experience held firm.

A message from Founder and Gallery Director of SMITH, Candace Marshall-Smith
It is with great sadness that I tell you SMITH will be closing its doors at the end of August 2020, following five phenomenal years representing some of the most outstanding artists emerging from South Africa and beyond. The economic impact of the COVID pandemic has weighed heavily on the business in recent months.
Since opening in 2015, SMITH has hosted critically acclaimed exhibitions, participated in numerous local and international art fairs, supported the careers and endeavours of its artists both locally and abroad, and found homes for important artworks in many noteworthy art collections. This was made possible with the help of supportive shareholders, a dedicated team at SMITH, a loyal and talented stable of artists, and a very special group of collectors.
It is with pleasure that we present this catalogue of works to you – our last exhibition and an opportunity to support these wonderful artists.
With all my gratitude,
